Xiaomi had its annual speech event where it announced that the company will release a second phone called the Mix Fold 2. It’s yet to be seen if Xiaomi will release this model outside of China but in photos, it looks effective.
Mix Fold 2 is the thinnest phone with a foldout screen that has been released to date. It measures in at only 5.4mm when it is unfolded, and it ends up being 11.2mm when closed, including the camera bump on the back of the phone. For perspective, Galaxy Z Fold 4 is 6.3mm unfolded and 15.8mm folded.
Mix Fold 2 weighs 262 grams with a refined hinge that combines alloy and carbon fiber plates alongside a recessed center structure and compact layer design. The Xiaomi-developed hinge ensures it will give the rigidity required in folding.
On the front, you’ll find a 6.56-inch AMOLED screen. That’s a wider aspect ratio than common shaped OLED screens and means you can type on it easily and it doesn’t look crammed in. At 120Hz, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 is protected by Gorilla Glass and allows you to take selfies with a 20 MP camera in a screen hole.
8-inch LTPO2 OLED Display: The display has a resolution of 1914 x 2160 px, a variable refresh rate, native support for the newest HDR formats and an Eco2 OLED screen that provides perfect image clarity while consuming less power. It’s also certified for Dolby Vision and HDR10+ and has Schott UTG glass to offer unbeatable durability.
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset is at the helm of this 2nd phone, paired with 12GB RAM and up to 1TB storage. Its Mix Fold 2 model benefits from Xiaomi’s partnership with Leica, getting a 50MP Sony IMX766 main sensor with OIS and Leica optics. Like the Xiaomi 12S Ultra, Mix Fold 2 gets Leica Authentic and Vibrant photographic styles as well as a handful of Leica filters. The back also houses a 13MP ultrawide camera and an 8MP telephoto module with 2x optical zoom.
Xiaomi will be selling the Mix Fold 2 in gold and black colors, packing an impressive 4,500mAh battery with 67W fast wired charging. The phone also runs MIUI Fold 13 over Android 12, which comes in either 12/256GB or 12GB RAM/1TB storage configurations. In China, pre-orders are already open and the official start date is August 16. Xiaomi has not announced anything yet about global availability of the phone.
