Sony has set a May 11 event to launch new hardware for its relaunched and revamped Xperia line.
Sony confirmed the event in a post on the official Xperia YouTube channel. The tech firm explicitly stated that a new Xperia would be coming soon and touted a “grand product announcement.” While the clip is just a minute long, the clip makes references to previous Xperia phone announcements since the series was relaunched in 2019.
The video title also indicates that Sony will unveil a new flagship phone dubbed the “next ONE.” This likely means we’ll see the Xperia 1 IV launch and hear all about it. As with the Xperia 1 IV, we are eagerly awaiting news about the Xperia 10 IV. We have seen both devices leak in the last few months, indicating that the flagship series will continue to improve.
In light of the previous generation’s flagship specs, we expect the Xperia 1 IV to launch with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, which was designed specifically for smartphones launching in 2021. According to previous leaks, few changes are expected, and a 3.5mm headphone jack and front-facing speakers seem set to remain.
There will be a live stream of the Xperia launch on May 11, starting at 4 p.m. in Japan. According to a global audience, that’s 8 a.m. UK time, 3 a.m.
